This is a clip from a 1950's documentary on the earthquake. You will definitely get a sense of how devastating this earthquake was. Have you ever been to San Francisco? Have you ever experienced an earthquake? Other reactions? What do you think of the music or the voice of the narrator?

I have been in an earthquake before and it was kind of freaky. I was six and i was sitting on my couch. Then, it seemed like the couch was being pushed forward by somebody from behind. I got off the couch and went around to see who it was, but nobody was there. Then, I realized that it was the ground that was rumbling. It was scary for a six year old.
Wow! I've been in two earthquakes. Both were in Japan. The first one was when I was at dinner. The Japanese hosts didn't know how to say "earthquake" , so they pointed to the shaking chandelier. It took me several moments to figure out what that was. It was rated a 7.1, but it was over 200 miles away. The other one, I was sleeping. That was more extreme. It was a 6.1, but a lot closer. These were both part of a typhoon. What was this earthquake rated? -CL6
Mr. Brown, I didn't know that an earthquake could be so destructive. Will you please post another video about this earthquake. Also, one of my mom's friends was in San Fransisco and she said that it was one of the scariest things that she has ever been through. -DBar3
I thought the video was very interesting. The music choice and the narrators voice were very fitting. I didn't know that several HUNDRED thousand people were left homeless. That is devastating.-DR3
I thought that clip was really neat. I've never been to San Francisco or experienced an earthquake, but I kind of got a sense of how devastating the earthquake was just by watching that video. It looked like it caused a whole lot of damage.
I thought that the earthquake in San Francisco was very interesting in how the city was basically destroyed by a sing earthquake. The crack in the pavement was enormous! Also the music added the suspense to the video. MB 3
I was surprise that the San Fransico earthquake made that many people homeless. I would think an earhtquke of that magnitude would kill more than 500 people. Also I was surprised that it took two days to put out the flames.
In this video, the commentator made it seem like the mayor and General Bunston seem like heroes, when i think that the soldiers, firemen, etc. would be more heroic. But maybe the mayor and the general planned and organized it all... -jd1
WOW, i cant believe that it cracked the street in half like that. I was in an earthquake once in richmond, i was in a doctors office and it sounded like someone above us was rolling something really heavy across the floor. although the ground didn't shake and the street didn't crack. Loved the video.
I think I have been in an earthquake before. I was too young to remember it, though. It would've been terrifying to be in that earthquake. Between it and the fires I'm surprised that anybody survived. The music reminded me of "The Adventures of Robin Hood," a movie made in 1938.
How ironic. I'm doing a lot of research about the San Fransisco Earthquake. I've also been in one. I was in another country and it made national news here. At first, I thought that the building was collapsing, but then I knew it was an earthquake. It was cool.
That was weird how it did so much damage. 700,000 homeless and 500 dead after the fire that the earthquake started. I thought that my grandparents had it bad when they were in an earthquake and the plates fell off the counter.
This video was very interesting. I've never been in an earthquake but I can imagine how horrible being in this one would be. I can't believe hundreds of thousands of people became homeless! The earthquake was very destructive and I"m very glad I wasn't in it.

That was pretty interesting because I never knew that a earthquake could split so many roads and buildings.

That is amazing! We just went over the earthquake in Language Arts class. It must have been devastating to see that happen.
