The Great Train Robbery (1903)

This is the actual film we heard about in class. If you care to read more about the film, check out http://www.filmsite.org/grea.html
Movies sure have changed. Silent films must have required a different attention span than those we watch today. If you looked away, you might have missed a key event.

Hi class! My name is Heather Anderson and I'm currently a student at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. As I watched this film, I couldn't help but think about how far film production has progressed. The making of a film entails so much more from better set design, scripts, camera production and the list could probably go on for days. I did however, like the use of music in this film. I found that it evoked a depth of feeling that lacks in many films today. Without any voice scripting, it causes the viewer to pay careful attention to the film. It's not an easy to look away for a few moments and still keep up with the entirety of the subject matter present in the film. The use of selective coloring towards the end, I thought, was creative. Overall, I liked the short film. It's been a long time since I've seen a nickelodeon! I've always found them quite interesting.

I thought it was really hard to follow. The picture wasn't bad it wasn't that blurry. Movies have come a long way in 100 years. I could roughly pick up the plot, but I was tempted to stop watching it.
