The Panama Canal (Time Lapse Video)

Mr. Schmick discovered this video clip a couple of years ago. While it obviously moves quickly, you can definitely get the sense of what is involved as one travels through the canal today. What are your reactions? Have any of you actually been through the canal?

This is really cool. I like how the water can raise and lower in a matter of minutes.

I think that it is amazing how much it takes to get a ship from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, but without the Panama Canal, the only way from ocean to ocean would be around the southernmost portion of South America

I believe that the panama canal is quiet a remarkable place. The designing is just amazing, it blows my mind that we able to create this canal. I have never actually been through the panama canal but I would love to go through it one day.

I never knew the Panama Canal was so complicated. I bet its a long journey through the Canal. I have never been through the Panama Canal but now I wish I have because it looks so cool. I have one question about the Canal, how long does it actually take to get through the Panama Canal?

That is amazing that people built that. Were there many machines involved? The locks idea is really cool.

That was an intresting video Mr. Brown. I always wanted to see how the canal works. I think it is really cool how they transfer the water from lock to lock. Thanks.

I loved this video. I've never been through the canal, or been anywhere near it, but by watching that video you feel like you have been through it. I especially like how it showed where you were, and the names of the locks.

That is very interesting! I've always wished to see the Panama Canal. I especially liked the locks and how they pumped the water to make it even for the ship to get through.

Thats sooo cool how the gates work and how they raise and lower the sea level to allow ships to pass.

Wow, that was huge. It must have taken forever to dig up. I heard that they are now working on widening it.

I enjoyed watching this video with my dad. He wants me to take a trip on the inner coastal waterway, where there are some locks. I think it'd be fun to have the boat rise and fall as the water level changes.

This video does a good job of showin the lock systems that the Panama Canal uses. This is also a good video because it shows you how long the Panama Canal is. It makes you think about how hard it would bee to build something like that.

Hey WB6,
I found out how long it would take to go through the Panama Canal. It would take about 9 hours. It is about 51 miles long, too!
