FDR Fireside Chat on Unemployment (1935)

People gathered around their radios to listen to the president. What do you think of his tone and/or message?

FDR seems very calm, not worried. That is what the American people needed at that time. He was also very confident in his plans.

I felt like he was talking to me, just like people thought he was talking to them over the radio. He has a very declaritive voice. It almost sounds like he's from Louisiana.

This is a very nice speech. FDR was a great speaker, and this shows why. He looks like he knows what he is doing and is not knowing which side to choose. This is a very nice speech.

The people in the video were right when they said that Roosevelt sounded like he was talking to you personally. The way he is talking makes you listen to every word he says.

The tone of his voice is always to me sounding confident. That is why the Americans loved him so much. He was always so confident with what was going on and was positive that they were going to get out of the depression.

I think that this exactly fit the description of FDR. He was telling the people it would get better. But not only was he telling them that, he was actually doing something about it, like the book said.

FDR seems to be attempting to convey a sense of calm and order in the midst of the Unemplymant. I think he is trying to tell people to have hope. my grandfather, who was in his early teens in the depression, says that the fireside chat was the focal point of the day back in that time. People loved to listen to Roosevelt on the radio!

That was a good speech. I like the way he talks, something about it. Were all the people listening to him on their radios? Was there anyone actually watching him say that speech?

His tone had no emotion and was very serious yet calm. Like CL6 said non worried and had confidence.
