Eisenhower Campaign Commercial (1952)

What do you think of the approach they took in the Eisenhower commercial? Would it have appealed to you? Why or why not? I find the light-hearted tone interesting given Eisenhower's very serious and important role as Supreme Allied Commander during World War II.

Very powerful stuff! It was the first campaign commercial and probably had a huge effect.

I think that they took a non-serious way to do this commercial. The catchy tune was made to stick in your head so you would remember to "vote for Ike" and to "send Ike to Washington". This commercial appealed to me just because of the funny cartoon and the annoying song that I cant get out of my head. Even though Eisenhower was very serious, they did not want to put a very serious commercial b/c no one would remember that. But, they would remember the "we like Ike, You like Ike,......."

Did eisenhower or one of his advisors come up with the IKE mato or did the people of america come up with the name?

i think that Eisenhower used this commercial as a little jingle so that it would stay in your heads untill you had to vote. Also, when at the end when it said ike on the sun, it sorta looked like they were trying to pictate him being the light they should follow.

This is the best presedential commercial i've ever seen. It's cheerful and catchy tune is perfect for getting you in a good mood. Like Chris said it's tune gets stuck in your head and you remember the words so that all you can think about is 'I like Ike'.
McCain should have done the exact same commercial just Instead of I like Ike it would be I Like Mac. The cartoon pictures of Eisenhower even look like McCain!

I liked that this ad wasn't negative like the ads today. I like the music and it caught my attention. I think this ad was very helpful.
